The maneki neko (beckoning cat) is a very popular symbol of good fortune and is usually placed in the entrance of a house or business. The left hand raised brings in visitors, while the white color brings good luck.
This cat holds two koban, or old gold coins. One bears the symbol "kaiun" or better fortune; the other has the symbol "senmanryo" or 10 million ryo, an old Japanese unit of currency - basically a bucketload of cash! The cat also has a collar of cherry blossoms and a medal with the symbol "fuku" or good luck.
