Interview with Ric O'Barry, dolphin activist and star of The Cove
(March 2010)
PROFILE
American Ric O'Barry (1941-) is the world's most famous dolphin activist. He starred in the feature-length documentary The Cove, which won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2010.
O'Barry first found fame as the dolphin trainer for the hit 1960s American TV show "Flipper." After witnessing what he calls the suicide of one of those dolphins, O'Barry underwent a transition and has since dedicated himself to ending the captivity and slaughter of dolphins worldwide. Since the 1970s, he has promoted the idea that campaigns to stop whaling and the slaughter of dolphins in Japan not become blanket boycotts against the country. (see full profile on Wikipedia)
