どうもどうもどうも Cool

I am new to the forum.

If you want to work in Osaka area, I know two companies that shall be looking for Norwegian native speakers.

One is "Honyaku Center". Ask Mr. Google and he will tell you where to find it. Its the biggest translation company in Japan.

The other is called Active Gaming Media (www.activegamingmedia.com ). It is managed by a guy called Ibai Ameztoy, and even though they are little company it is really cool to work with. Mostly the do video game testing and iPhone game development.

Good luckSmiley

I was just checking this forum, and it came with very useful links. My friend Alejandra is traveling to Japan for a couple months to study japanese. She is currently very fluent on it (she has about 4 years studying it) and she is thinking about staying in Japan once her studies are done, or cope with study and work.

She has half bachelor degree (2 years) of Biotechnology and speaks other 4 laguages.

Do you think she will be able to find a job in Japan as a english teacher/translator (this is her prime goal). What are her chances?

Thanks!

Essentially... what is on the contract is not necessarily enforceable or legal... though, so many here go with it anyways that many employers get away with it.

I would love to teach in Japan. It would be a great opportunity to stay for a long time. The problem I am facing is that I can only find schools that want native English speakers. My English is at a C1 level, but apparently that's not enough? The degree should be no problem. I'll get my BA in social and media studies next semester. I would love be pointed into the right direction.

Teaching German would also work, but I could not find any schools.

Obviously (?) there isn't as much demand for German as there is English. But I'm sure there are jobs out there. Assuming you're not in Japan and don't yet have a working visa, you'll face the same hurdles as everyone else who wants to come here to teach. I've known a few non-native English speakers who have worked here as teachers, so it's not the biggest hurdle, if you're resourceful. There's plenty of advice on the topic throughout this forum and elsewhere.

Good luck!

Hey Bro

From what i have been hearing and talking to afew eng teachers here, what they did was do there basic 120 hours TESOL course came here some without a visa and some with a work holiday visa. Came to nippon with plenty of yen, went job hunting landed a job teaching english(aeon ect ect) bypassed the whole bullshit of you need a 4 year degree, The employer sponsored them and they got a working visa. I was getting told by alot of people you need a 4 year degree or you can go back to where you came from. But these guys used a neat little loop hole, they did have to leave japan to get a working visa but its all worth it. I was looking at getting a 600 hour TESOL diploma because it is recognised as a university degree but in the end after talking and getting know people who actually know what they are talking about i am going to try their way.

Regards

Sure, why not? As you say, a lot of people get their foot in the door that way. You just have to remember that you're skirting the law (not one that will really get you into serious trouble, but the law nonetheless) and there are some risks. But even if the worst came to the worst, you'd just be given a slap on the wrist and sent home.

When you arrive stay in a "gaijin house," because it's cheap, you don't need to pay a big deposit and you instantly get plugged into the local network. And that's where the really useful and up-to-date info is at.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I am looking for a Japanese Partner who can help recruit groups of students to go on an English Study Tour to Australia or Bali.

Is there any contact details or someone that can help?

Thanks

Hi I am new to the forum. I have been under the impression that in order to become an English teacher in Japan you must buy yourself a work visa, get to Japan, stay in somewhere cheap and find a job there.

Is this really the best way? I am thinking it can't be. How can I manage all that with my beginner-level Japanese?

Thanks for any advice and opinions.
